AI solves nuclear fusion puzzle for near-limitless clean energy
AI and nuclear in the same sentence sounds all very Terminator! Good news or should we heed the late Stephen Hawking's warnings on AI?

Re: AI solves nuclear fusion puzzle for near-limitless clean energy
Fleischmann and Pons' fantasy concerned a reaction which has never been observed.

Sunlight proves that HOT fusion happens. The problem has been making it controllable.

You don't want your new-fangled version of Battersea to go Hiroshima, or, more likely, fizzle out just as you're sitting down to watch West Ham in their first Champion's League final, plunging the tie into darkness

It would have to be an absolutely humungous car.
ITER,should be generating by 2035 but usable Fusion has been 20 years away for ages now.

Re: AI solves nuclear fusion puzzle for near-limitless clean energy
The allure of fusion is by now well understood. It generates four million times more energy than fossil power, without emitting CO2 or methane. It creates almost no long-term waste. Its main by-product is inert helium.

It uses almost no land, and little water, and can be made practically invisible. Unlike today’s fission, it produces industrial high-grade heat to help decarbonise glass, cement, steel, ammonia, hydrogen, etc. It runs continuously if you need it, or is dispatchable if you don’t.

The fuel is effectively limitless for thousands of years and can be obtained anywhere: deuterium from seawater, and tritium by breeding with small amounts of lithium. There is no risk of a runaway chain reaction. It does not use fissile materials and is useless for weapons.

Fusion has been the focal point of the Government's Energy policy for the UK since 2010.

Sorry correction:

Confusion has been the focal point of the Government's Energy policy for the UK since 2010.

Re: AI solves nuclear fusion puzzle for near-limitless clean energy
I recall Pons and Fleischmann back in the early 90's claiming fusion at room temperature, they were soon debunked/shut down.

Re: AI solves nuclear fusion puzzle for near-limitless clean energy
I have always said that the discovery of an energy source that wipes out the need for fossil fuels will come the day after West Ham United are bought by an oil rich nation.
